I never know what to expect when it comes to web hosts anymore. In the old days, a web host was an obleisk of technology and information. I can recall when I was a young neophyte, and paying for web hosting was absolutely out of the question- there were far to many free web hosts that were available. In fact, my first money-making website was hosted on Tripod.com.

Recently, web hosts have started to change their image. There was a brief period of time where the user didn’t know what to expect from a new web host simply because so many people were launching hosting businesses. Hard drives were cheap, and web space became a high-supply commodity. It has only been in the last year or so where web hosts have cleaned up, weeded out the week, and are once again providing quality services at good prices.

None of this has anything to do with DSBHosting.com, as they are a relatively new company (even by internet standards). However, I still feel that twinge of weariness when I encounter a new web host. This is, obviously, counter productive when you are approached by the owner of a web host for a review, so I decided to change my attitude and give DSBHosting.com the benefit of the doubt.

First Impression

I’d be lying if I said that DSBHosting.com had the best sales page out of all of the web hosts that I’ve encountered, but it’s hard to argue with their pricing ($2.99 for a basic plan, up to $10.99 for their most comprehensive plan). The layout of their website is clean and attractive enough, though I found the grey text to strain my eyes after a while.

That doesn’t really matter in the long run, and I’m more than willing to overlook that small grievance considering the apparant focus on service, quality, and the exceptional price.

I opted to use the $10.99/month plan (the Advanced plan) as I have dozens of websites, and for the purposes of this (and any future) review I’m going to load the hosting up to the limit and then test the servers under load, domain registrations, etc.

Using DSBHosting.com

Domain registration and purchase was simple. I was able to search for and register a domain right off of the front page. Once I had selected my plan, I submitted all of the information and then paid. Payments are made via PayPal subscriptions, so you can feel better knowing that your information is safe and secure (PayPal is one of the largest payment processors on the planet).

The Advanced hosting package comes with unlimited e-mails, domains, etc., 4 gigabytes of storage (that’s a lot), and 60 gigabytes of bandwidth a month (also a lot). It also comes with all the usual (PHP, CGI, etc.).

The cPanel is standard, and I immediately felt at home with it. Within an hour of opening my account I had FTP and mySQL up and running, as well as a myriad of e-mail addresses. DSBHosting.com allows you to configure everything, meaning that you won’t have to worry about encountering roadblocks or limitations (as I’ve encountered with many other web hosts). I was glad to see that I had total freedom.

The site that I have hosted on it (www.simplifiedseo.com) loads up fast, each and every time. I have even tried multiple pings from over a dozen different computers, and it still loads up without complaint. I’m very happy to see that, as many web hosts overload their servers, causing slowdowns and even downtime.

Overall/Closing Remarks

I have to give DSBHosting.com credit for their professionalism and service. Every time I submitted a help ticket it was answered within hours, and the staff at DSBHosting.com really know what they’re doing. In fact, the owner of DSBHosting.com came online and IM’d me about how to change my nameservers in my GoDaddy panel.

DSBHosting.com is a great web host that, though still small, looks as if it has a large future ahead of it. Their most expensive hosting package ($10.99 a month) is still very price competitive, and it offers more features than most people will ever need. Even their basic hosting package ($2.99 a month) is a cut above.
