Ahh yes, arbitrage. The business model that was where it was supposed to be for just under a year and then… crash. Google certainly put the brakes on that one, didn’t they?

Or, at least, so you think. Whether you are willing to believe it or not, thousands of people are still making good money with MFA websites and arbitrage tactics. Let’s face it- the business model, when applied right, becomes a license to print money. Who wouldn’t get in on that kind of simplicity?

Here’s something to think about:

During the gold rush, it wasn’t the miners that made the most money, but rather the people who sold the miners their picks.

How can you apply that to your online business?

I received an e-mail a few days ago from a visitor of AffiliateWeb and I thought I’d pass it along (after I obtained his permission). I’ll give my thoughts on it after.

A few weeks ago Google really hit a lot of internet marketers hard when they started to crack down on MFA (made for Arbitrage) websites. Publishers that were making several thousand dollars a month started to sweat (and sweat hard) when Google simply closed their accounts. Google did pay most of the pending commissions, however, though they made it quite clear that MFA websites are no longer acceptable platforms for AdSense advertisements.

How you market your products will determine how successful they are. It’s a sad fact, but the quality of the product is often irrelevant, or at least significantly less important than the quality and effectiveness of the marketing strategies used to promote it. We have seen this employed hundreds of thousands of times (anyone remember the “Swiffer”, which was little more than a glorified duster).

When it comes down to promotion, there are dozens of different marketing strategies and promotional techniques that can be used to get your product the attention of the buying public. The Rich Jerk used one type of marketing, anti-marketing, to amazing results. For nearly two years just about every popular website had a Rich Jerk advertisement on it, and they were easy to point out.

The Lazy Hippy - Ethical Internet Marketing
http://www.thelazyhippy.com/

I came across this website while I was searching for a place that gave good information without plugging affiliate links into everything. AffiliateWeb is an example of one such website- you’ll notice a lack of ads (presently), and there are no posts with my affiliate links tagged into the links.

You may be aware that I also own www.communicatebetter.org, a site that specializes in copy writing. I thought that I would bring its existense to light here, however, as AffiliateWeb is gaining much more attention and readership.

CommunicateBetter is a project that I started up a few months ago to address some concerns that I had with the quality of communication related websites that I was finding online. To be blunt, I did not find any websites that directly tackled the issue of technical and interpersonal communication in a way that I saw sufficient.

Obviously, CommunicateBetter is about improving your communication skills, be they personal or professional. I’ve got information about resumes, job interviews, writing skills, and non-verbal communication, and the content is only growing as time goes by. I’m going to make references to articles that I’ve got posted on CommunicateBetter from time to time, so I think it only makes sense that you at least know what it is.

Before I get into the core of this article, I’d like to point out that I am in no way affiliated with the Rich Jerk. In fact, I’m not even going to link to the Rich Jerk’s websites, and I’m not going to place a hoplink either.

As well, I’m not going to get into the ethical questions regarding the Rich Jerk’s products, as that’s not the purpose of this case study. Instead, I’m going to focus on the brand and the marketing behind it.

I’m going to refer to the Rich Jerk’s owners and umbrella company as simply “the Rich Jerk” for simplicty’s sake.

Intrduction
Marketing a product to a level where it attains god-like status isn’t easy. Though there have been many products that have accomplished this (Microsoft Windows), the method of getting there is often wrought with challenges and tribulations. It isn’t easy, but it can be rewarding in both a financial and professional sense.

You can never have too much information, and when it comes to developing an online income or career, you need all of the resources that you can find. AffiliateWeb is a great resource for the aspiring affiliate, though I’d like to take a moment to introduce another website that is also a fantastic resource.

I am not going to lie when I tell you that I have started many different websites (over 30) and I have abandoned just about every single one of them (assuming that I haven’t sold them instead). I don’t know why, but sticking to a project gets cumbersome after a while.

But not this. I have had a vision for AffiliateWeb for quite some time. I have been to a lot of the top industry blogs, SEO forums, and general information centers, and none of them are as comprehensive or as easy to understand as I’d like. The fact is that the web needs a resource of information that a newbie - a new internet marketer - can understand, use to their advantage, and generally just help them along.
