Affiliate marketing is appealing on multiple levels.  It forces continuous learning and encourages thinking outside the box.  It provides a vehicle for mobility and flexibility in life.  And most importantly, it rewards creativity and persistence with results.  I entered the world of affiliate marketing one day when I decided that there might be some interesting money-making hobbies to take up in my spare time.  Randomly I decided to search for “profitable business” on eBay and it came back with some interesting results - I invested in a few smaller established Web sites and became immersed in the world of SEO, traffic, arbitrage, PPC, affiliate marketing, and all the other acronyms and phrases we’ve all come to know and love.

I wasn’t born into sales or marketing per se, but like many people reading this I grew up with the advent of the Web.  I started out building simple Web sites, then eventually taught myself Perl, PHP and other Web technologies.  Once proficient in a few programming languages in high school, I never doubted for a second that I’d study anything else besides Computer Science in college.  After a 5 year stint of writing Java code for mobile content companies in Los Angeles, I quit working for the man and started my own company.  I hired my first employee in April 2008 and have been focusing exclusively on affiliate marketing and online advertising with a heavy technical approach.  I believe the key to a long-term sustainable affiliate business is automation and tracking; anytime we find ourselves doing any task that can be automated, we write code to make it obsolete.

Personal Interests
I enjoy travel, social events (i.e. partying), and working out.  Whether it be bar hopping in Santa Monica or weekend trips to Vegas, it’s all about staying active.  Or maybe that’s just my excuse to go out every other night.

When I first began affiliate marketing I was one of the many new affiliates that rushed to the industry as the result of a eBook that proclaimed that I could have the world for a few hours a day. I never thought that I’d make the kind of money that the sales copy advertised, but I did know that someone was making money from that purchase and I wanted to be that person. My purchase ($49.99 to the now defunct AffiliateCashVault.com) launched a lucrative and exciting affiliate career. That was several years ago.

Today I am an affiliate manager for CanadianSponsors.com, where I oversee a large team of affiliates and work to help those affiliates achieve their income goals. As an affiliate myself I am constantly learning about new ways to monetize and increase my affiliate earnings. This industry, though new and immature, is growing at an incredible rate.

I launched AffiliateWeb.org back in July of 2007 and eventually transferred ownership to Dave Riggs (above) as I began to move in a different direction and he expressed interest in AffiliateWeb.org. AffiliateWeb is widely becoming recognized as a destination for no-nonsense information that both new and experienced affiliates can benefit from.

I can be reached any time at cmartel@affiliateweb.org and am always happy to talk business, cars, computers, or just about life in general.

Personal Interests
I enjoy exercise and working out. I am actually 225 lbs, and I am in great physical condition. I have just toppled my exercise goals.

I am also an avid auto enthusiast- I have owned several sports cars, and I am now working on acquiring a few unique ones (a Mazda “Autozam” AZ-1 and a 1994 Lotus Elise). My personal favorite, a “lowly” 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo, has been tastefully modified for an exhilarating ride.

I spend the majority of my time working out, enjoying life with my girlfriend, furthering my education, and working on my internet ventures.
