I’m very much looking forward to this.  If you went to ASW in Vegas, ad-tech in SF, or any other similar conference for that matter, you know the value of these things.  Networking’s the main deal of course.

I’m sure I lost some readers not having update this blog in a while, but no big deal - if anyone wants to meet up, let me know.  I’ve learned a TON after quitting my job in March to pursue full-time affiliate marketing.  It’s actually amazing you can make a living doing this stuff; if you’d told me that a year ago I’d probably have just shrugged it off and thought “yeah right”.  ;)

I had just finished Valve’s “Portal” and I came to realize that the submissive psychological messages directly relate to affiliate marketing. Yea, I know what you’re thinking, so hear me out here.

Many people jump on the affiliate marketing bandwagon because they assume that they’re going to get a free ride. Money, women, cars, and more money- in actuality, they find themselves working 10 hours a day for a while and constantly tweaking PPC campaigns and learning the ropes of SEO and SEM. Ahh yes, welcome to the affiliate marketing reality that we all know and love. It’s not all puppy-dogs and lolly pops, that’s for darn sure, and if you aren’t careful you’re going to get eaten alive.

At the same time, that’s why we all love affiliate marketing, right? This is truly an industry where those that can do, and those that can’t fail and move on back to their real-world jobs. I’ve seen it happen a million times and I don’t doubt that I’ll see it happen a million more.

I received an e-mail from a fellow by the name of Jermaine who asked me what I would do if I could start all over again?

Hey everyone;

In case you’re wondering where my last post went you can rest easy: it’s been lost in the transition as I shift from 1and1.com to DSBHosting.com (remember, I reviewed them a little while ago).

A few more days of tweaking and we should be working properly again.

Till then… well, you know :)

Every now and then a really cool piece of technology comes along… the Wii is one of them.

This was written on one.

Awesome.

EDIT: You’ll have to pardon my enthusiasm. I have been looking for a Wii for months, literally, and finally walked into a Best Buy yesterday and there just happened to be one on the shelf. Of course, after jumping around like a giddy school-kid, I picked it up (along with a copy of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition).

I am now a bit behind on my copywriting obligations, as I am having a blast with Wii Sports. This has got to be one of the best consoles ever made, period.

You may be aware that I also own www.communicatebetter.org, a site that specializes in copy writing. I thought that I would bring its existense to light here, however, as AffiliateWeb is gaining much more attention and readership.

CommunicateBetter is a project that I started up a few months ago to address some concerns that I had with the quality of communication related websites that I was finding online. To be blunt, I did not find any websites that directly tackled the issue of technical and interpersonal communication in a way that I saw sufficient.

Obviously, CommunicateBetter is about improving your communication skills, be they personal or professional. I’ve got information about resumes, job interviews, writing skills, and non-verbal communication, and the content is only growing as time goes by. I’m going to make references to articles that I’ve got posted on CommunicateBetter from time to time, so I think it only makes sense that you at least know what it is.

I am not going to lie when I tell you that I have started many different websites (over 30) and I have abandoned just about every single one of them (assuming that I haven’t sold them instead). I don’t know why, but sticking to a project gets cumbersome after a while.

But not this. I have had a vision for AffiliateWeb for quite some time. I have been to a lot of the top industry blogs, SEO forums, and general information centers, and none of them are as comprehensive or as easy to understand as I’d like. The fact is that the web needs a resource of information that a newbie - a new internet marketer - can understand, use to their advantage, and generally just help them along.

Wow… what a journey it has been to get to this point.

Over the last 18 months, my perception of affiliate marketing has changed dramatically. Like many others, I started off as the result of a misaligned eBook purchase. I began to promote ClickBank excessively, having no success and no luck. In fact, I wound up owing AdWords $108.48 after eight months.

Eight months, and no profit. Kind of discourages someone, huh?

Not me. I have since branched out, networked with other marketers and people who can contribute to my success. I don’t sell or promote eBooks, and I certainly wouldn’t create my own.

No, several thousand dollars in commission and several months of my time have taught me many things. By no means am I a millionaire internet marketer, but I believe that I will be one day. I’ve learned that all it takes to become one is a bit of luck, persistence, and a good idea or two.

And hey, I’ve got plenty of those.
