This article came up when I saw one of the AdSense ads showing on my site that proudly proclaimed “Affiliates: $537 per day - Quit your job with ClickBank”.

Woah, hold on there. If anyone thought that it’d be a great time to go and quit their job to become an affiliate marketer I would strongly recommend against it. Here’s why:

What does it mean to “live within your means”? Does that mean to spend what you can afford, or does that mean to leverage your income in such a way that it is supported by your financial endeavors? The definition, of course, is entirely subjective, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t “live within your means” and still achieve your financial goals.

This may come as a shock to you, but affiliates who employ spam tactics often find themselves on the receiving end of the ban hammer. It’s not as if they are being discriminated against, or that the affiliate network itself is shady, but rather the leads and sales that they generate are poor quality, and the merchants who work with the affiliate networks have to deal with the consequences.

Becoming an online affiliate takes guts, so congratulations if you’re serious about starting an online business. The challenges (and rewards) that are to follow are beyond anything that you’ve ever dreamed of- the first day I made $1,000 online I was floored that I was able to generate that much income in one single day. Now I’m working hard to make every day a $1,000 day.

AffiliateWeb, in its entirety, is receiving right around 80-100 unique hits every day, which is not really a lot when you consider some websites that are receiving 50,000+ uniques a day. Yet, every single day there is one thing that never fails: I will receive at least one e-mail from a reader asking how they can get started in affiliate marketing.

I would not be the first person to rant and rave about the AdWords quality score. The “feature”, which was designed to penalize landing pages that offered no real content or value to the user, has sent many users pricing skyward as their cost per click (CPC) takes a rather large hit. Many advertisers have even jumped ship, citing that the implementation of Quality Score (QS) in AdWords has made Google’s PPC delivery system ineffective and expensive.

The last few days I’ve really been focusing on goal setting as a means to increase efficiency and improve your personal or professional success (see my posts on setting daily goals, setting weekly goals, and setting monthly goals). Personally, I set goals for myself every day and I truly believe that a large reason why I have become as successful as I have is because I am constantly striving to meet those goals. It’s important to me to meet these goals, as each time I do I am a little bit closer to achieving my overall goal (to strike it rich and retire young… seriously).

This article is in addition to the other two that I’ve written about goal setting (’Setting Monthly Goals‘ and ‘Setting Daily Goals‘), so be sure to give those articles a read as well. I’ve already rambled on about the importance of goal setting, and now I’m going to conclude the trio of goal setting articles with the last important topic: setting weekly goals.

I received a tremendous response from my monthly goal setting article (read it here), so I’m going to spend the next few days discussing goal setting and the power of self motivation. Every self-help and motivational book ever made gets into the power of focus and goal setting, and so the topic seems a little played out. Even so, it would be a massive mistake on your part to dispute the significance of goal setting.

The points made in this article can apply to anything, be it professional or personal, and not necessarily just affiliate marketing. Try to find ways that you can make your daily life goal-oriented.
